The whole family will love this homemade Cheesy Macaroni Pasta Recipe! It’s cooked with crunchy breadcrumbs on top, really creamy, and incredibly cheesy.

If your family resembles ours in the slightest, you will love this baked mac & cheese dish. Since the first time he sampled it, our child has been requesting “Cheesy Macaroni Pasta” and I find myself going back for more. I just can’t get enough of it. It has a creamy, cheesy texture and is loaded with crunchy, toasted breadcrumbs and oozy noodles. This is as good as comfort food gets, I swear.

For a time now, I’ve wanted to post a baked cheesy macaroni pasta recipe on the site. When I asked my Instagram followers about their favourite holiday sides a few years ago, a lot of you responded that homemade macaroni & cheese was one of your favourites. I hope this dish ends up on your table for Christmas or Thanksgiving this year. If not, we can confirm that it also makes a great weeknight meal. Have fun!

Ingredients For Making Cheesy Macaroni Pasta

Prepare yourself if you’re used to eating macaroni & cheese straight from a box. There’s nothing like homemade macaroni and cheese for this. What makes it so amazing is this :

Macaroni, naturally! This adorable elbow pasta is ideal for mounding the gooey sauce on.
I adore using Sharp Cheddar and Gruyère Cheese together in my baked mac & cheese! The Gruyère is nutty and the cheddar tart, and together they melt into a delicious creamy sauce.
Flour, butter, and whole milk : These components combine to make a basic béchamel sauce, which serves as the foundation for the cheese sauce in this recipe. To thicken the sauce, combine the flour and butter to form a roux. After that, mix in the milk to give the sauce a deep, rich consistency.
Garlic : For a flavour that is pungent and deep.
Dijon Mustard : I usually have Dijon mustard on hand, so I add it in place of mustard powder in many classic mac and cheese recipes. It adds a delectable tang to the sauce.
For a little smokey flavour, use smoked paprika.
To produce coarse breadcrumbs, just pulse a few high-quality bread pieces in a food processor until they become finely crushed. They produce a crispy topping for the creamy mac and cheese after they toast in the oven.
Extra virgin olive oil : To help the breadcrumbs crisp up in the oven, mix them with it.
Pecorino cheese : Alright, this recipe calls for three different types of cheese! To give the breadcrumb topping a cheesy, salty twist, I include some pecorino cheese.
Add some salt and pepper to enhance the flavours of everything!

Steps For Making Cheesy Macaroni Pasta Recipe

Are you prepared to create this cheesy macaroni pasta dish at home?

Cook the spaghetti and prepare the breadcrumb topping first. As you prepare the sauce, set them aside.

Step 1 : First, prepare a basic béchamel sauce, which is a traditional French sauce prepared with milk and roux. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat to form the roux. When the butter is melted, add the flour and whisk constantly until the mixture is light brown. Pour the milk in gradually while continuing to stir.

Step 2 : Add the seasonings after that. Add the paprika, mustard, garlic, salt, and a few grinds of pepper and whisk until combined. While continuing to whisk constantly, bring the sauce to a simmer.

Step 3 : Once the cheeses are melted, add the cheddar and Gruyère and continue stirring. Stirring often, cook the sauce over medium-low heat for 6 to 8 minutes, or until it thickens slightly. You’ll have the ultimate creamy, cheesy treat!

Step 4 : After cooking, add the macaroni to the cheese sauce.

Step 5 : and mix till coated.

Step 6 : Assemble and bake after that. Spoon the cheese noodles onto a baking dish that has been lightly greased, then top with the breadcrumb mixture. Bake for about 20 minutes at 425°F, or until the cheese is bubbling and the topping is crisp. Serve as a crowd-pleasing side dish or as a main course with roasted broccoli or a salad!

Step 7 : Although leftover mac & cheese is tastiest the day it’s cooked, it may last up to three days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. To reheat, place them in the microwave or preheat them in an aluminium foil-covered baking tray at 350°F.

Instructions For Making Cheesy Macaroni Pasta Recipe

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Olive oil and bread crumbs should be combined in a small basin. Add the pecorino cheese and toss to incorporate after coating the bread crumbs with a toss.
  • Heat a big saucepan of salted water till it boils. Cook the macaroni about a minute or so short of al dente, as directed on the packet. To avoid sticking, drain and toss with a little spray of olive oil.
  • Melt the butter in a medium-sized pot (or clean, dry, and repurpose the pasta pot).   • Spoon into the baking dish that has been prepared, then sprinkle with the bread crumbs. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and the topping is crunchy.

Tips For Cheesy Macaroni Pasta Recipe

  • Cook the pasta too little : When the noodles are still somewhat bite-sized, about a minute short of al dente, is when you want to cook it. Usually, I cook them for one minute less than the package’s suggested minimum cooking time. When you combine them with the cheese sauce, they will become even softer. The pasta will be too soft in the finished dish if it is cooked through from the beginning.
  • Personally grate the cheese : Here, pre-shredded cheese is not an option! Usually, it’s covered with anti-caking chemicals, which will hinder you from creating an exceptionally creamy and smooth cheese sauce. You should always grate your own cheese for the tastiest baked macaroni and cheese.
  • Whisk continuously : You’ll see that I instruct you to whisk almost constantly when making the cheese sauce if you look at the instructions below. For the roux to be uniformly distributed throughout the milk and produce a rich, creamy sauce free of lumps, whisking is essential. Additionally, it keeps the sauce from burning on the pot’s bottom. Keep an eye on that sauce as it simmers!
  • Go in headfirst : Since the noodles will continue to absorb the cheese sauce while it rests, this baked macaroni and cheese will have the creamiest texture right out of the oven. Before serving, let the mac and cheese to cool for a little while if you want it extra creamy.
